 STAGED HOMES FOR SALE OR SHOWI love fake or artificial foods such as grapes, breads, and pastries. Even as a young girl I had a plastic container full that I now share with my grand children. Good quality artificial foods are fun to stage... around the house. Maybe inside an antique country cabinet or above a wine shelf. I even have a basket hanging above the sink with carrots, celery, onions and mushrooms. Just can't get enough. Designer homes and homes for sale sometimes stage rooms to make them appear more welcoming. |

 CLEAR AMMONIANot to many people are thrilled about cleaning with ammonia. They just can't tolerate the harsh smell. I have to say I always keep a bottle in my cleaning bucket and here are some of the tasks ammonia can contribute to a real good clean and shine. 1. Garbage cans 2. Faces of white cabinets, doors, baseboards, woodwork 3. Crystal and add a dash of soap 4. Bathtubs 5. Ceiling fans Ammonia can be a good all purpose when diluted safely. Experiment on other areas using caution. |

 CARPET TAGSI'm such a picky and meticulous housekeeper that I alway make sure the carpet tags are tucked under when I put the carpets back, but some days I get so frustrated with such a petty task. I ask myself why my customers just don't cut them off!! Give me the scissors already!!!! |

 CARING FOR ORIENTAL RUGS Oriental rugs are commonly made from cotton and wool and
are showcased in many colors and designs. As a housekeeper and home manager it is important for all
of us to remember how to care for such a beautiful hand-made item. Some carpets
are actually handed down from generation to generation as they could be very
costly, valuable and have a long history in the making. Caring for the carpet
fringe is something not only the housekeepers, but the home owners should take
into careful consideration. The photo shows great wear on this particular
carpet and will not have much value at all if sold. The fringe of the carpet is important as fraying and
tearing could diminish the value of the carpet for resale or trade so keep them
clean and never run the vacuum over the fringe or pull the fringe in any way.
If you are vacuuming stay away from the fringe and raise the vacuum to a higher
level to avoid pulling the main carpet areas. To care for the fringe you can
use a little ammonia and water, carefully blotting and tapping dry with a clean
cloth, then repeating with a little vinegar and water. Use a plastic bag or
large towel so you do not wet the floor underneath the carpet. Allow the fringe
to sit on the dry towel until fully dry. Carefully comb out the fringe with a
large tooth comb. Oriental carpets continue to be known as a luxury and
praised for their color, design, style and history. To determine their value you can turn the carpet over and
examine the knots that are tied together. They are known as Turkish or Persian
knots. The closer the knots, the higher the value. The carpet may also be
tribal which means they are made by specific tribes often with ceremonial
designs or colors. They will be marked with a tribal name. They are highly
valuable because they were never meant to leave the tribe and are a prize for
collectors. Paisley patterns are viewed as bringing good fortune in Asia and

 HELPFUL TIPS WHEN HIRING A CONTRACTOR FOR RENOVATIONSSince there will be a significant amount of cleanup after your renovations are complete, take care when inquiring on estimates to include cleanup fees in your renovation budget. Wait until the bid is final, then ask if the total number includes contractor cleanup. DO NOT ask this question before or the contractor may raise the price. Some contractors will NOT cleanup after their project which leaves YOU to the surprise of that awful mess! My Naples Home Services HOUSEKEEPING HINT: After the proposal is submitted and the home owner is ready to accept it, ask if the total includes cleanup. This will not allow the contractor to change his price. It is typically set in stone. If he does, he stands a chance of losing the job. He now knows you expect his company to lightly clean the first layer of dust, sweep or vacuum the floors and return the home to an acceptable appeal. If he does not provide this service you will want to consider hiring a housekeeper to help you clean OR look for another contractor. As a home manager I have seen this way to many times. Knee Pads  Work safety is important and when it comes to physically demanding jobs such as housekeeping, gardening and other tasks we must listen to our bodies and be aware of how we lift, bend, stretch and pull. Occasionally, washing baseboards are on our list of tasks for the day and spending time on our hands and knees is required so we always keep a set of ladies knee pads handy. They are a big help and your knees will thank you.  |

How can I create a blog and is it best to have a blog or a website? What is the difference? This question can be quite confusing. A Blog is a bit easier and less expensive to create than a website.The Blog content is updated on a regular basis by the author consisting of reading content that would appeal to the fan base. Readers are able to make comments on the author’s post which produces conversation and trust and if the content is rich in useful advice it may be helpful to others. A Blog also allows your voice to be heard, but it also consists of a lot of writing about a topic you believe in, one that inspires you. A blog that attracts your readers with fresh information. A blog does not have to sell anything. It can be as simple as sharing recipes, keeping a journal on a trip to another country, or even a political view. Choosing a Website may be less stressful, but a bit more expensive to create. Once the website is established, the content will do the work for you on your advertising needs. When researching the internet we look for websites that attract our attention.Take the time to create a website that is fully functional, stylish and informative. The ideal luxury of having your own website is the continuous expression of your ideas, accomplishments,talents and profession that can be viewed worldwide.The goal is to keep the viewer informed, interested and leave the website with the knowledge and answers they were searching for. With the right traffic and marketing skills a website can be a valuable tool.  Is your toilet running periodically 4 or 5 times a day and then stopping? It could be as simple as replacing a worn out flapper that is not sealing properly. It’s easy and inexpensive. If this does not solve the problem, you may want to check the toilet fill valve for wear and possible broken parts as well. Some parts are easy to replace yourself and if all fails call a licensed plumber. Start saving money on your water bill now. Chlorinated water will break down and wear out your toilet flapper faster than normal. Taking the old flapper with you when you purchase a new one will help you purchase a matching replacement. The rubber flapper cap is the most common. It fits many toilet systems and is easily replaceable. |
Decorating with Coffee Beans

 Mason Jars of any kind, old, or new, antique, colorful or vintage are one of the first items on my shopping list when decorating because they can be used in so many different ways. People fill them with candy, flour, bath salts, and candle holders for outdoor events. I am using this one filled with rich hazelnut coffee beans and setting it in a china cabinet. It’s a perfect place next to the antique coffee grinder and flour sifter.  Decorating with coffee beans is a very festive way to add a bit of welcoming aroma throughout your home especially right before you are ready to entertain guests. If coffee is brewing already before your guests arrive, the warm and inviting décor is sure to make them sit back and smile.  A hollow wine barrel with a flat top is a perfect place to set a few handfuls of flavorful coffee beans.The barrel sits in the corner of the dining area with a small decorative lamp adding ambiance to the room. By placing a sheet of wax paper on top of the barrel will help to hold the coffee beans in place and keep any stains from penetrating into the wood. |

 The Dryer Ball has never impressed me.“Rumble, rumble, rumble, bla, bla, bla." Selling for around $10.00 per set, these plastic or rubbery balls tumble around the dryer and separate the laundry allowing air to flow more freely while softening fabrics. My sheets still bundle in a knot and catching those little rascals is just plain annoying! Do they work or are they just another gadget? Time is of importance for me so drying sheets on their own, stopping the dryer in intervals, shaking out the sheets a bit and re-positioning, then start the dryer again. Seems like a lot of work, but it gives me a chance to check the dryness of the sheets and move on with my tasks. How do you rate this product? |
